C -19 Reflection #28: Prayer as Relinquishing (The Lord’s Prayer)
C -19 Daily Reflection (#28)
Theme: Prayer as Relinquishing (The Lord’s Prayer)
Scripture: Matthew 6:9-13 (The Message)
“The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They’re full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don’t fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this: Our Father in heaven, Reveal who you are. Set the world right; Do what’s best— as above, so below. Keep us alive with three square meals. Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others. Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil. You’re in charge! You can do anything you want! You’re ablaze in beauty! Yes. Yes. Yes.
Reflection:
We are considering the way of relinquishing.
To relinquish has several definitions and many synonyms, but for our purposes it might best be expressed as the sense of voluntarily ceasing to keep or claim something, in the sense of surrendering, parting with, giving way, handing over, turning over, letting go.
As you reflect on and pray the Lord’s prayer today, take some time to consider how this prayer leads us in the way of relinquishing?
We will consider this in a bit more depth and detail tomorrow.
The Lord’s Prayer (Common Version)
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us
not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever.
Amen.
