C-19 Reflection #89: Days of Grace

C~19 Daily Reflection (#89)

Theme: Days of Grace

Scripture: James 1:16-18

16-18 So, my very dear friends, don’t get thrown off course. Every desirable and beneficial gift comes out of heaven. The gifts are rivers of light cascading down from the Father of Light. There is nothing deceitful in God, nothing two-faced, nothing fickle. He brought us to life using the true Word, showing us off as the crown of all his creatures.

Reflection:

The Apostle James is trying to get our attention about his sense that the nature and purpose of God's generosity in our lives, namely that the good gifts of our earthly lives come from our heavenly Father and people who are able to recognize and receive these gifts as such become a God-designed example, a sign and a witness to others. If ever before these kinds of people are necessary in the world it is now. Who would argue that the world urgently needs people who are able to notice and name the good gifts of grace in their daily lives, because it is so tempting and easy to see the chaos instead.

Because every attitude seems to require a practice to help it form in our lives, how about this. Each day ask the Lord to help you see 3 blessings, one at each level - in your daily, personal life, in the experiences of your dearest communities (family, church, neighbours, colleagues) and in the broader cultural, political events of the news cycle.

So let's open our eyes to the light today and everyday with some serious expectation that there are good things to be noticed, named and received!
